when i was 17 (and living in the uk) insurance companies looked at primarily 2 things. this was a long time ago now so it's probably changed a lot since but here goes. one was the badge, so something with a good brand like an Audi or Mercedes was more than a Volvo or Skoda as it was seen as more desirable for street racers or something, but interestingly the model of car within a brands range didn't make much difference, the cheapest model Audi cost the same as the most expensive model or near enough as makes no difference. it was all just down to the brand recognition. two was the engine size in litres, this was grouped up in categories and your insurance was based on what category you fell into. as i recall the categories were something like <1L, 1-1.2L, 1.3-1.5, 1.6-2L. so having a 1L car cost the same as a 1.2 litre without affecting the price but the difference between 1.2 and 1.3 was hundreds of pounds because it bumped you up into the next bracket, but then prices stabilised again until you went to 1.6L or above. this meant there was no advantage of getting the lower engine sizes and you might as well get the biggest engine within the band you were looking in. the third was the value of the car itself, pretty self explanatory on this one. older cars with high mileage were cheaper than newer ones with low mileage. first car was a 1992???ish 1.2l vauxhall nova for anyone who cares.

I've always loved these. Shame they were & still are so expensive. I believe the Michelin tyres are not an in-stock item either and when they do make a batch are horrendously expensive. I was unaware of the brakes. But if you ask me, such a shame that this didn't influence future more mainstream cars.

Sport one did look ace. 96-115k new is correct. Sold mine 75k after a 6 month fight. Had bites 99k and 110k. Basically they went down to 63k at auction and are flat between 75 and 80k. Mine owed 75k with auction fees. Insane thing. Not for driving daily. Horrid to squirt up a road.

The best I ever got in my car was around 78.5 mpg's over a whole tank, all motorway driving behind lorries at 80kph sometimes maybe 100 but that is the max. But considering my car is just a normal renault clio diesel and not some optimised special version I guess thats okay.
